Weld County high school seniors who are graduating in 2018 and interested in furthering their education are invited to enter the second annual scholarship essay competition sponsored by Responsible Alcohol Retailers of Weld County (RARWC).

To participate, you must:

  • Be a resident of Weld County
  • Be a graduating senior in high school
  • Complete the application and submit a typed essay of approximately 500 words
  • Submit one letter of recommendation

To enter, the senior must submit a completed application, including a 500-word essay and a letter of recommendation.

RARWC Spokesperson and Westlake Wine & Spirits Owner Jim Radcliffe said, “Every year, alcohol contributes to the deaths of 4,300 youth under age 21 each year, which is such a tragic loss. By age 18, 65% of teens have consumed at least one alcoholic beverage. Our organization is dedicated to preventing access to alcohol to anyone under age 21. This scholarship supports our mission to help educate the community about the dangers of underage drinking.”

RARWC is supported by Weld County Prevention Partners, a program of North Range Behavioral Health. It is a coalition of on premise and off premise alcohol retailers, law enforcement, government, community members and other interested business partners. The organization is dedicated to reducing the use of alcohol in our community and preventing underage drinking through responsible business practices and networking.
